Our Mascot

Callithrix penicillata is the scientific name of the CCC mascot - MICO ESTRELA.

It owes its name to a white spot in the shape of a star.
It is a small marmoset with greyish fur, tail with black and grey transverse stripes.
Its lifespan ranges from 10 to 15 years.

It was in 1587 that it was designated the Star Marmoset.

This primate is exclusive to Brazil. They can be found in Minas Gerais, Goiás, Piauí, Maranhão, Sergipe, Bahia and northern São Paulo.

It is an omnivorous animal, feeding on small animals, flowers and fruits.

They can often be found in parks and zoos; they are very sociable, good-natured and child-friendly.

In a group of marmosets, only the dominant female reproduces. Gestation lasts approximately 5 months and 2 marmosets are usually born per birth.

It is a very friendly animal that visits many coffee plantations and feeds a lot on them. Ingesting their flowers and the famous coffee cherries.
