Wilmer Cubillos lives and grows coffee at Finca El Rosal, located in El Rosario, in the department of Huila, Colombia. His farm is situated at 1,650 meters above sea level, an ideal altitude that combines hot days and cool nights, creating dense and sweet cherries.
Wilmer has been growing coffee since 2006, when he acquired his property.
He is the first generation of his family to be dedicated to coffee farming. Wilmer's passion for coffee production is evident in everything he does. His goal is to sell his coffee internationally, where it can receive the attention it deserves.
Wilmer lives with his wife and youngest son. He has two older sons who have already left home and are pursuing their own careers.
Location
The Huila region is one of the most well-known coffee-producing areas in Colombia. The Department of Huila has a population of 1.125 million inhabitants and is located in the southwest of the country. The capital of the department is Neiva, a city with about 380,000 inhabitants.
Along with Cauca and Nariño, Huila is one of the three departments where the Colombian Massif is located. A massif is a group of mountain ranges, and the Colombian Massif, locally known as Nudo de Almaguer, provides up to 70% of the drinking water and agricultural water used by the Colombian population.
The Magdalena River, the largest river in Colombia, crosses the region, providing abundant water for coffee cultivation and generating (both directly and indirectly) up to 86% of Colombia’s GDP. The mountain range also features the fertile volcanic soil characteristic of the Andes Mountain Range.
